What is The Learning Depot?

The emergent curriculum used in my program is based on observation of the children and developmentally appropriate practices. Daily activities will be child-centered and will incorporate math, science, dramatic play, blocks, art, music and movement, cooking, gross/fine motor, social-emotional development, sand/water play, and early literacy/language skills such as pre-reading and pre-writing in a developmentally appropriate way – learning through play.

Fit-Tastic! is a program provided by the Healthy Lifestyles Initiative and Children’s Mercy Hospital for the community to make it easier for children to be healthy and active. As a Fit-Tastic! partner, I will be implementing the following Fit-Tastic! policies:

-Provide opportunities to get physical activity every day.

-Limit recreational screen time.

-Offer 1% or skim milk to children ages 2 and older.

-Limit or eliminate sugary drinks; provide water.

-Children are served at least two different fresh, frozen, or canned fruits or vegetables every day.

-Limit unhealthy choices for snacks and celebrations; provide healthy choices.

The chart lists daily activities with small illustrations, including breakfast, small group time, activity centers, clean up, playground, washing hands, lunch, story time, rest time, afternoon snack, another playground, and dismissal.

Play is an important part of children’s development, both indoors and outdoors.  We will be getting in touch with nature on a daily basis.
